Dear ALAEA members,

It is with regret and sadness that we pass on the news that ALAEA member Jason Matthews has passed away. The ALAEA wishes to offer our condolences to the family and friends who have lost a loved one taken well before his time. Jason passed away on the 20th December 2021.

Jason’s distinguished career in aviation began when he was indentured as a Qantas apprentice in 1990. After completing his apprenticeship, he left Qantas in the mid 1990’s to travel and work overseas before returning to Qantas in 1998.

His career then took a different turn after he was recruited to Jet Care as their first Sydney based AME. With the collapse of Ansett and the emergence of Virgin Jason became one of the founding Virgin Engineering employees.

Jason was quick to develop as a LAME and went on to achieve qualifications on the B737-800, B777 and the E190. Jason also undertook leadership roles and a number of interstate postings.

He will be sorely missed.

The details for Jas’ send off are as follows:

11am Friday 7th January Torwood Lounge, 247 Rocky Point Road, Sans Souci

Followed by drinks afterwards at:

St George Motor Boat Club, 2 Wellington Street, Sans Souci

Regards,

Peter Gill
