Dear ALAEA Member,

As you may be aware, despite the ALAEA’s efforts to engage collaboratively with Qantas regarding
the introduction of the A321XLR, the company has unilaterally removed all R&D duties and towing
responsibilities for the A321 from LAMEs without prior consultation; a step we believe breaches its
lawful obligations.

In response, the ALAEA lodged a dispute with the Fair Work Commission on 9 July 2025, challenging
both the failure to consult and the impact this change has on your duties and job security.

It is our understanding that an agreement previously established between Qantas and the ALAEA in
Perth also applies in the current circumstances. Specifically, LAMEs are not to undertake brake-riding
or any other duties during towing operations where RAMP staff act as PIC of the aircraft, as those staff
do not have adequate access to the technical manuals required to safely perform these tasks.

We have been advised that an A321 is scheduled to transit, and potentially be towed, in Melbourne
and/or Sydney today, 10 July 2025. Qantas has advised that LAMEs will not be involved in any R&D
or towing activities.

Should you be directed or pressured to participate in the towing of an A321 contrary to the above
position, please notify the ALAEA immediately so that we can take appropriate action on your behalf.

Regards.
Glynn Sowter
General Manager
