Dear Members,

It is with deep respect and fond remembrance that we acknowledge the passing of our friend and colleague, retired Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Graeme Smith.

Graeme began his aviation career with TAA in Brisbane in January 1967 as an apprentice in the Electrical and Instrument category. He became a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in 1972 and went on to serve with distinction for nearly four decades.

From 1986 to 1990, Graeme was stationed in Mt Isa, where he not only maintained commercial aircraft but also contributed his expertise to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, often assisting with remote breakdowns in the region. In 1990, he returned to Brisbane, joining Shift 4, where he continued to earn the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Graeme retired in December 2005 after an outstanding 39-year career. He will be remembered not only for his technical skill and dedication but also as a much-respected friend and mentor to all who had the pleasure of working with him.

A wake will be held to celebrate Graeme’s life on 30 May 2025, from 1400 to 1700, at the Broncos Leagues Club, Captains’ Room.

Graeme’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched throughout his career. He will be greatly missed.

Rest In Peace Graham

Regards

Luke Murray (on behalf of the ALAEA)
