Dear Members,

We are beyond sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and esteemed colleague, Greg “Chimo” Chimiak.

Greg was one of those rare individuals who made going to work fun. A meticulous and insightful engineer, he had a unique gift for turning the complexities of aircraft maintenance into a memorable inclusive experience.

When working with “Chimo” you were guaranteed two things — the job would be done right, and you’d walk away with a story (usually one of his) to remember.

Chimo often referred to himself in the third person, I think that’s because he carried the heart and soul of something greater.

We all love a little embellishment, but that was Chimo’s charm. A true character.

Greg began his career with remarkable drive, starting his apprenticeship at just 15 years old in 1989. He became a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer at a young age, and from the outset, he carried a thirst for adventure that absorbed his colleagues and made them part of his journey. He wasn’t just a friend, he was everyone’s mate. He was widely respected, deeply liked, and always a pleasure to be around.

Chimo had a sharp mind, an infectious charisma, and embodied the spirit of what we value most: humility, dedication, and camaraderie.

While we often look back on someone’s accomplishments, Greg’s greatest legacy lies in how he made us feel, and how he left each of us better for having known him.

The best engineers are grounded, humble, and committed; they don’t seek recognition, only the quiet respect of their peers. Greg Chimiak was one of the best.

You left us too soon Greg , but there is a hangar in the sky where we’ll all unite.

In memory
