Qantas members will have received correspondence from the company outlining a change in how Qantas remunerates their staff for additional public holidays as prescribed by the Government.
The ALAEA has sought external legal advice from a barrister with respect to Qantas’ position concerning the Christmas New Year period.
Subject to the barrister’s legal advice, it is the preliminary view of our legal officer that Qantas’ position in relation to States/Territories where the 27-28 December 2021, and 3 January 2022, where these days are prescribed as ‘additional public holidays (i.e., not substituted) is not correct.
The ALAEA will be monitoring the effect post-Christmas/New Year and will advise members accordingly.
On behalf of all the Officials and Staff at the ALAEA have a Merry Christmas and Enjoy the New Year
