Following my recent notice, I’m pleased to provide further details on the future structure of the ALAEA and our initiatives to enhance member experience and engagement.
Strengthening ALAEA’s Leadership
The Federal Executive met last Wednesday evening to fill vacant positions within our leadership team. We’re pleased to announce the following appointments:
- Senior Vice President – Wayne Derndorfer (Qantas Melbourne)
- Assistant Federal Secretary – Kevin Baldacchino (Qantas Sydney)
- Vice President – Matt Whiley (Jetstar Melbourne)
- Qantas Councillor – Wes Miller (Qantas Perth)
- Qantas Aligned Regional Airline Councillor – Matt Paynter (Jetstar Sydney)
We extend our sincere appreciation to these individuals for their dedication and the personal sacrifices they continue to make on behalf of our members.

I’m pleased to observe that nearly all Executive positions are currently filled—an uncommon achievement during my tenure with the Federal Executive. This high level of engagement is truly commendable, and I’m confident that with such a dedicated and capable team advocating for our diverse membership, we will see meaningful progress in every aspect. It’s important to remember that these individuals are volunteers, generally giving their time and effort without compensation. They serve because they genuinely care about you and the future of our organisation. Please afford them the respect and appreciation they rightfully deserve.

Member Engagement – Roadshows Coming Soon
We are committed to strengthening our engagement with you. In the coming months, we will conduct roadshows across major ports, offering you the opportunity to meet us in person and hear about our future plans. Stay tuned for further updates!
I’ll be having a brief break from the 4th until the 11th of April. Kev Baldacchino will be Acting in the Role of Federal Secretary in my absence. Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to working together to build a stronger ALAEA.
