Dear Members,
Following Rod’s recent notice, I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the recent election. Your trust in me and the team at the ALAEA is truly appreciated. I assure you that we are fully committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for every member.
As Rod mentioned, we share your frustration regarding past communication challenges. Please know that significant efforts have been made behind the scenes to ensure that the events of the last 18 months are not repeated. Today, I’d like to share some key changes we are implementing to strengthen our organisation and improve support for our members.
Structural Changes for a Stronger ALAEA
The Federal Executive has decided that the role of Federal Secretary will no longer be a full-time paid position. Additionally, the Executive will shift its focus from daily operations to providing strategic direction, oversight, and support.
To ensure the smooth running of the organisation, Glynn Sowter has generously agreed to take on the role of General Manager. He and his team have been given full authority to manage all operational matters while having the full backing of the Executive. This change will allow for more efficient decision-making and a stronger focus on member support.
Investing in Our Representatives
A key priority moving forward is the development and empowerment of our Union Representatives. We recognize that our Reps are the backbone of the ALAEA, and their ability to support colleagues at the Grassroots level is essential.
To strengthen this, we have approved a series of Union Representative training courses to be held throughout the year. These sessions will equip our Reps with the necessary skills and knowledge to address issues proactively. If you are a current Rep who has not yet completed this training, I strongly encourage you to do so. Keep an eye out for emails from Brad Stewart regarding upcoming sessions.
For those interested in becoming a Rep, I urge you to step forward and have your colleagues nominate you. The more trained and engaged Reps we have, the stronger and more effective our Association will be.
Upgrading Our Headquarters
After many years at our Bexley office, the Federal Executive have made the decision to explore relocating to a more suitable location. In the coming weeks, you may see our current premises listed on Realestate.com.au as part of this transition. We will provide further updates as this process progresses.
We are committed to keeping you informed and involved in the continued development of the ALAEA. Thank you for your ongoing support, and I look forward to working together to build a stronger future for all members.
Regards
Luke Murray
Federal Secretary
